It was a great honour for the Kohima Museum curatorial team to be invited to the Japanese Embassy for an award ceremony in which Mrs Akiko MacDonald received the Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendation for her decades of work fostering reconciliation and friendship between the U.K. and Japan.
Akiko is Chairperson of the Burma Campaign Society. She gave a very moving speech, in which she spoke of her father, who fought at Kohima.
The Award was presented by The Ambassador of Japan, Mr Hiroshi Suzuki. He is pictured in the photograph, with Akiko and her family.
